Color, composition and story have always interested me. After receiving my first undergraduate degree at University of Massachusetts Amherst (BA English, 1991) and subsequent travels, I attended Rhode Island School of Design (BFA Graphic Design, 2001).

During my formative years I was passionate about theater. I adore off-beat comedy and improvisation and anything that brings people together with a laugh. For this reason, I think of my creations as performance on paper, where I can bandy about ideas and nudge the limits of convention.

As for process, I start with pencil sketches then move toward a medium such as gouache (opaque water color) or oil pastels. Working this way allows me to experiment and explore and gives space for intuitive connections to bubble up. The computer is relegated to touch-ups, typography and reproductions.

I live in coastal Rhode Island with my husband, two almost-grown kids and a Standard Poodle named Dragon.
